How can I drive more Google Reviews for my business?


Businesses grow by focusing on acquisition and retention. That means to grow, businesses need to perform a balancing act of finding new customers, while also building loyalty with their existing customers. Sure, social media presence is important and client referrals are beneficial, but how much emphasis have you put on growing your Google Reviews?

If you haven’t given this much thought, you should. Google Reviews are the first place potential customers will look, and they can have the most impact on your company’s growth. With these, it’s not enough to rely on old reviews from years ago. According to Blue Corona, 85% of consumers don’t trust reviews more than three months old, and 40% of consumers will only look at reviews from the past week! Gathering Google Reviews is an ongoing process, and it’s a process that shouldn’t be ignored.

1.) Ask your customers for a Google Review


While this seems like common sense, it’s often an overlooked step. No one is going to leave a review unless you ask! When you interact with customers regularly, it’s easy to know the difference between a happy and unsatisfied customer. Take advantage of those happy customers and ask them to leave (not “write”) a Google Review. You can take this one step further and create a small notecard, or takeaway item, with a link to your Google Review website on it. You can then keep this at your business and hand it out to customers with a link to your review website. If customers say they are short on time when you ask them, let them know they can simply leave a star rating which will still go a long way! People are busy so don’t be shy and be sure to ask more than once if you haven’t heard back from a customer!


2.) If you have email addresses, use them

If your customer made an online purchase, or if you have a client’s email address from a job, send them a follow-up, personal, email thanking them for their business. In that same note you can also ask them to leave a Google Review. You can even opt to include your Google Review link right in your email signature! That’s one way you can ask for a Google Review without “asking” for one!

3.) Add a Google Review link to your website

Many customers may not know how to leave a Google Review. For these customers, the first place they will go to is your website. You can include a call-to-action for the Google Review in your website’s header or footer. Regardless, consider including a custom Google Review link. When you have a custom link, this makes it easier for customers to leave a Google Review because once they simply click a box, the review page for YOUR business will pop up. 4.) Utilize social media

Just like your website, another place that customers often will visit are your social media feeds. These are great tools to engage your customers in a different way. One way to utilize this is by posting a screenshot of a stellar review and then encouraging your followers to do the same in your caption.

5.) Monitor your existing reviews

It’s inevitable that at some point you may get a poor review. If this happens, stay calm. This is an opportunity to turn the dialogue around. You can respond directly to the reviewer, apologize, and even offer a promotion, discount, or refund to them. Prospective (and current) customers like to see that they are being heard. That’s why you should also respond to positive reviews and feedback, so customers know that their time writing a review was worth it! And don’t forget to say thank you!

6.) Focus on customer service

Customer service and Google Reviews go hand in hand. If you want countless 5-star ratings, you need to provide customer service that is worthy of 5-stars! When customers feel blown away by how they were treated, they will feel more obligated to leave a positive review, which will help your brand!
